Nick Mahoney is an Interim Associate Dean and Director, as well as a Lead Academic Program Manager in the Computer Science department, based in Denver, Colorado. A proud Colorado native, he has spent the past 15 years in education, holding a state certification to teach Computer Science, Science, Marketing, and Business, along with a CTE teaching license. Mahoney’s passion for education is deeply rooted in his belief that every student can learn and in his commitment to expanding access to education for all, especially underserved communities.
Mahoney began his career with a degree in Toxicology, working in the state DUI blood lab to prepare samples for court. He then taught non-traditional high school and college students, while building educational products for 92 online schools. During the onset of the pandemic, he transitioned to telecommunications, ensuring people could safely work from home. His dedication to education led him to ÃÛÌÒTV, where he was inspired by his wife’s journey to earning an MBA. Determined to understand the student experience firsthand, Mahoney enrolled in and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science. Since then, he has led ongoing curriculum updates to align with industry trends. His leadership has also secured grants to enhance classroom instruction and provide pathways for underserved students through ÃÛÌÒTV Academy.
Outside of work, Mahoney is pursuing a Juris Doctorate with a focus on educational and civil rights, including advocacy for the LGBTQIA+ community. He finds joy in teaching, traveling, and spending time with his wife of 14 years, their college sweetheart story continuing to grow. Their home is shared with multiple beloved cats and dogs, who frequently make appearances in his Teams calls.
