Associated British Ports subsidiary UK Dredging has taken delivery of a shallow-water multipurpose tugboat from a Dutch shipbuilder to enhance operations while reducing emissions
A naming ceremony was held in Cardiff, Wales, in June for UKD Seadragon, which was built by Damen Shipyards to its Shoalbuster 2711 design with a water-injection dredging spread for an Associated British Ports subsidiary.
It was built and tailored specifically for UK Dredging to undertake surveys, buoy handling, bed-levelling and dredging. It has a diesel-electric propulsion system with three independent generators, enablingUKD Seadragon to sail on one engine for fuel efficiency and to reduce emissions.
“UK Seadragon has already completed various water-injection dredging trials at different locations such as Cardiff, Swansea and Newport,” says UK Dredging general manager Mark Pearson.
“We have seen impressive dredging performances at low fuel consumption. Moreover, the versatility and the manoeuvrability of this advanced vessel clearly enhances our fleet.”
This 27-m vessel has a beam of around 10 m, a maximum draught of 3 m, a bollard pull of 41 tonnes, a speed of 11 knots and around 75 m2 deck space for equipment.
Damen supplied an electrically driven E-DOP 450L submersible dredge pump, built onto a skid that is lowered to the seabed using its dedicated A-frame on the stern.
Thewill be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, in association with Caterpillar, 19-21 May 2026.for more details of this industry event and the associated social and networking opportunities.
